“The John Flynn Memorial church was planned as a national monument and shrine to Flynn on the land he had chosen in Todd Street (Mall). On 29 April 1954 the turning of the first sod took place in a quiet ceremony. Five AIM nursing sisters, in turn, dug a spadeful of soil. They were Sisters Lyla Bailey (nee Best), Ina McCoy (nee Pope) and Gwen Windle (nee McCubben) from Alice Springs and Sisters Olive Donnellan (nee Ramsey) and Sheila Wilkinson (nee Fletcher) from Oodnadatta. Phil Windle and Bill McCoy were present. The Rev Fred McKay conducted the simple observance accompanied by his wife Margaret, who was then Matron of Adelaide Home. Padre and Mrs Colin Ford represented the Old Times Home.” Facebook. "First National Real Estate Framptons". accessed 5 July 2020.
